(Mar. 12, 2016) – Behind a seven-point effort from freshman midfielder Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.), a four-goal game from junior middie Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and a hat trick from junior attacker Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.), the Molloy College women's lacrosse team successfully defended John A. Darcy Field with a 12-8 win over conference foe Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday (Mar. 12). Molloy is now 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in ECC play, while Roberts Wesleyan falls to 2-4 and 1-1 in conference competition.
The Lions utilized a seven-goal first half to overwhelm the Rochester institution, despite falling behind a goal from Loren Dunn (East Rochester, N.Y.) in the first three minutes of the game. Sesselman started the scoring for Molloy, with Wilson tallying two straight markers before the junior struck for another goal to put the maroon and white up 4-1 with 16:13 left in the first half. Dunn scored another for the Redhawks, but Sesselman and freshman Casie Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.) answered with back-to-back tallies in giving the Lions a 6-2 edge. Watson got in on the act with Molloy's last goal of the first half and first goal of the second half, and Wilson and Sesselman helped in the scoring category to keep Roberts Wesleyan a safe distance away from the lead.
Wilson's seven-point day also came with six draw control wins, while senior defender Chelsea Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) won four draws, caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Senior defender Caitlin Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.) had a team-high three ground balls and red-shirt junior goalie Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) made nine saves to earn her third win of the year.
The Molloy College women's lacrosse team will host Holy Family University on Sunday (Mar. 13) in the final game of a four-contest homestand at Darcy Field beginning at 12 p.m.
