ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 11, 2016) - The Molloy College women's lacrosse team is in the midst of a four-game homestand and will play its last two games of that section of the schedule this weekend in front of its fans at John A. Darcy Field on Saturday (Mar. 12) and Sunday (Mar. 13). First the Lions will host ECC opponent Roberts Wesleyan before taking on last year's CACC champion in Holy Family University.
About the Lions- Molloy is 2-2 this season following a win-loss pattern through the first four games of the year. The Lions were defeated on Sunday (Mar. 6) by Assumption College in a 12-9 game in Rockville Centre in the team's most recent match-up. Three players scored a pair of goals each for the maroon and white in junior attacker
Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.), sophomore attacker
Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.).
- The Lions are averaging 9.75 goals-per-game with junior midfielder
Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scoring a team-high 11 goals thus far. Graduate attacker
Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.) has four goals and 11 assists.
- In cage for the maroon and white, red-shirt junior
Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) has been a save machine. She currently has a 2-2 record with a save percentage of 57.8% and a conference-best 59 saves through four games. Winters is also posting a goals-against average of 10.75 this season.
The Weekend's OpponentsSaturday (Mar. 12): Roberts Wesleyan (2-3, 1-0 ECC). Offensively speaking, Roberts Wesleyan has three attackers that have put up impressively gaudy numbers over the course of the five-game start to the 2016 season. Junior attacker Cassley Jackowski (Lafayette, N.Y.) has already scored 24 goals and totaled 33 points---with seven goals coming in one game and six in another. Seniors Loren Dunn (East Rochester, N.Y.) and Ali Fox (Canandaigua, N.Y.) have also scored six goals in one game this season and have totaled 18 and 14 markers, respectively. Junior goalie Shannon Knapp (Lafayette, N.Y.) is 2-3 so far in cage for the Redhawks with a goals-against average north of 14.00 and a save percentage that resides at 45.4%.
Sunday (Mar. 13): Holy Family (0-5). Last year, the Tigers went 14-3 and won the CACC Championship; this season has been a mighty contrast as Holy Family has struggled to find a groove. The main offensive weapons are back for the Tigers, led by senior midfielder Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J.) who has 10 goals this season. The main difference is the loss of defensive weapons in Kimber Kisselback and Caitlin Carrezola; Holy Family has struggled defensively, yielding an average of 17 goals per game. Senior goalie Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md.) has a goals-against average of 17.23 this season with an 0-5 record.
