Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Feb. 20, 2016) - The Molloy College softball team found itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard in both of its Saturday (Feb. 20) games at the Snowbird Softball Freeze-Out. First the Lions lost a 5-3 decision to Le Moyne College; then it was West Chester picking up a 7-3 victory at the expense of the maroon and white.
In Molloy's first game of the day, senior
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) and junior
Milan Botte (Reston, Va.) provided six of the team's eight hits from the Nos. 3-4 spots in the batting order. Balinskas doubled home
Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) in the first inning and then hit an RBI groundout one inning later; Botte drove in
Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) with a single in the third inning to give the Lions a 3-0 lead, but the advantage did not last. The long-ball lifted the Dolphins to the win, as Le Moyne had a home run in the fourth and fifth innings of the win. Sophomore Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y.) hit a game-tying three run big fly in the fourth inning off of freshman pitcher
Jenna Turato (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to level the score at three-all. In the fifth inning, both Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y.) went deep off of
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) to provide the final difference in the game.
West Chester---the team picked to win the East Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference---took a 2-0 lead over Molloy in the third inning of their affair on a two-run double by senior Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa.). Molloy cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single by
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.), but the Golden Rams tacked on four runs in the fifth inning and never looked back. Balinskas had an RBI single in the bottom half of the fifth and sophomore
Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) closed out the Lions' scoring account with a sacrifice fly later in the frame.
The Molloy College softball team will play its final two games of the Snowbird Softball Freeze-Out on Sunday (Feb. 21) against both New Haven and Wilmington (Del.).
