Danielle Valente (South Setauket, N.Y.) and
Courtney Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.) provided the Molloy women's soccer team (4-5-1) a 3-0 victory over Dominican College (3-7) on Thursday (Oct. 6).
The Lions made their presence known early, when
Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.) registered the game's first shot 66 seconds into the contest. The maroon and white would fire an additional ten shots before Valente launched a shot from inside the box, past keeper Melissa Richards (Nanuet, N.Y.) and into the lower right corner of the net in the 29
th minute of play. The senior would score again in the 62
nd minute off an assist from Merino. A foul on Dominican provided Molloy with a free kick that Noakes sent past Samantha Simler (Cheshire, Conn.) for her first career goal to put the game away at 3-0.
Molloy maintained a 32-4 shot advantage and was awarded nine corner kicks. Valente led the campaign for the Lions with 12 shots, six of which landed on goal. Merino, Noakes,
Kristen Cummings (Huntington Station, N.Y.),
Amanda Milazzo (Setauket, N.Y.), and
Sam Bernieri (Massapequa, N.Y.) all registered three shots in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) earned her second shutout victory, making two saves.
The maroon and white continue their four-game road trip on Saturday (Oct. 8) as they head to Sparkill, N.Y. to face St. Thomas Aquinas at 12:00 p.m.
