Seniors of Women's Soccer Shine in 4-1 Win Against Queens

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2016) - In their final game of the season, Molloy's women's soccer team had a dominant 4-1 victory against Queens College. All of the team's five seniors, who were honored during a pre-game ceremony, factored into goals on the contest.

The Lions began the game strong, with senior Danielle Valente (South Setauket, N.Y.) firing the first shot just 50 seconds into the game. The shot was saved by Queens goaltender Megan Deak (West Islip, N.Y.). Valente would shoot two more times in the opening five minutes of play, the second of which found the back of the net to give the Lions the 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Queens would go on to answer back with a goal of their own three minutes later, as Alexis Qualle (Raleigh, N.C.) dribbled past her defender and sent the ball flying into the top right corner of the net. The 1-1 tie was broken in the 19th minute of play, as senior Courtney Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.) launched a free kick towards the net for fellow-senior Gabrielle Batista (Hicksville, N.Y.) to chip in. The Lions would head into the half with a 17-2 shot advantage.

The second half of action began very similarly to the first, with Valente taking a shot early, though it was blocked by a Knights defender. In the 51st minute, senior back Gianna Jennosa (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) sent a cross Valente's way, which the South Setauket native sent past Deak to put Molloy up 3-1. The Lions' final goal of the day would come almost exactly six minutes later, as Jessica Malone (Long Beach, N.Y.) sent a corner kick in front of the net for Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.) to head into the net.

Molloy dominated across the board, taking a total of 28 shots, while only allowing six shots to be taken by the Knights. Valente led the efforts for Molloy with ten shots, six of which were on target, in her final game with the team. Sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) made two saves on the day. With the win, Molloy ends the season 7-8-2, and 4-3-1 in conference. Queens, who also played in their final game of the season, fell to 4-12-1 overall and 1-6-1 in ECC action.
