ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2016)
 - It was not the ending that the Molloy cross country programs were expecting or hoping to have on Saturday (Oct. 22) as the Lions raced in the East Coast Conference Cross Country Championships in Rochester on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan. The Molloy women's runners finished in sixth place out of nine programs while the men's team ended the race with a fourth-place showing as the host Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan were victorious in both races to claim the conference crown for another season. For Molloy, sophomore Brian Michels (Patchogue, N.Y.) was the lone All-Conference runner as his tenth-place finish garnered an All-ECC Second Team space for last year's Rookie of the Year.

Michels posted a team-best time of 26:59.2 over the eight-kilometer course, with a mile pace of 5:26 to run inside the top-10. The sophomore was bested by six members of the Roberts Wesleyan squad that all scored points, along with two runners from Saint Thomas Aquinas and a harrier from Daemen College. Continuing for the Lions, freshman James Finnegan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 26th place out of the 67-runner field with a time of 28:24.3; senior Shane Martensen (East Islip, N.Y.) was nine seconds behind his teammate and finished in 28th (28:33.5). Freshmen Matthew Healy (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Stephen Barbaro (Middle Village, N.Y.) were the final two runners for the Lions to finish in the top-half of the field. Healy ran a 31st-place time of 28:49.7 while Barbaro clocked a 29:13.6 run to finish in 38th.

In the women's five-kilometer race, the highest Molloy finisher was freshman Emily Martino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) who completed the course in an 18th-place time of 20 minutes flat (20:00.2). Two other Lions finished inside the top-half of the 70-runner field as sophomore Diana Monaco (Center Moriches, N.Y.) ran 29th overall with a time of 20:42.8 and senior Tyra Jamison (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) completed the course in 33rd place (21:07.5).

The Lions will have another chance to race this season, but that will come in November at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Hopkinton, N.H.
