READING, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2016) - The Maroon and White journeyed to Reading, Pa. to bowl in the Bud Whitman Baker Invitational hosted by Kutztown University on Saturday (Oct. 15).
The first team on the schedule for Molloy to face was Mount Aloysius College, the two-time defending champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). The Mounties did not disappoint as the squad built up a lead for most of the contest until the very end. Trailing throughout the match, the Lions need a strong finish and freshman
Jennifer Bisogno (Toms River, N.J.) provided that by rolling three strikes in the tenth frame to spark a one-pin victory, 823-822. Up next were the Penguins of Youngstown State University and the Lions were out-paced early by YSU. The Penguins took an 896-655 win over Molloy to even up the Lions' record for the season. The third match featured Molloy leading Caldwell University through the first three games of the five-game Baker format match. The Cougars, however, pounced in game four to the tune of a 202-138 victory and opened up an insurmountable lead. Caldwell took the contest by a final of 881-758.
Molloy followed up by facing a new squad to NCAA bowling in the Dukes of Duquesne University. The Lions trailed by six pins going into the final game but it would be to no avail as Duquesne picked up a 187-149 win in game number five of the match to claim a 791-747 sweep. The final school on the schedule was Medaille College, the team that beat Molloy last season in the Lions' first-ever Baker match at the very same tournament. The Mavericks had a 34-pin lead through four games of the match, but the Lions were able to overcome the deficit. The squad of freshmen---
Marisa Clinton (Staten Island, N.Y.),
Gianna Avallone (Blauvelt, N.Y.),
Kayla Dobrinski (Sloatsbury, N.Y.),
Carly Licht (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Bisogno combined to roll a 208 and seal the comeback win with a pin total of 784-748. The 208 for the Lions was the highest game of the tournament for the team.
The Lions return to action on Saturday (Oct. 22) in Wallingford, Conn. at the Sacred Heart University "Bowl for the Cure" Invitational.
