Box Score SEAFORD, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2016) - Molloy's field hockey team fell to 1-9 on the year following a 4-0 loss to Bellarmine University on Sunday (Oct. 16). The Lions, however, were once again led by a fantastic defensive effort by graduate goalkeeper
Arianna Ovadia (East Meadow, N.Y.), who made 29 saves, and
Ellyn Byrnes (Huntington, N.Y.) who added another three defensive saves on the effort.
The Bellarmine offense attacked quickly and with force for the majority of the contest, but Ovadia's performance kept the score tied at zero until the 24th minute when Kathryn Schneidtmiller (Louisville, Ky.) was able to beat the gradute student off an assist from Elle Lichte (Oconomowoc, Wis.) to put the Knights up 1-0. Lichte would score a goal of her own at the 35th minute to send the score to 2-0 at half.
Lichte and Schneidtmiller would each score off rebounds in the second half, in the 40th and 45th minute, respectively, to round out Bellarmine's four goals. The Knights outshot the Lions 59-0, with 39 shots landing on goal. Bellarmine also held a 27-0 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman goalkeeper
Amanda Mesas (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) picked up three saves in relief for the Lions.
Molloy will return to action as they host Belmont Abbey College on the campus of Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. at 7:30 p.m.
