PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2015) - Freshmen
Megan Scali (Garrison, N.Y.) and
Krystal Bottone (Wantagh, N.Y.) of the Molloy College women's tennis team were unable to advance through the second round of the ITA East Regional Tournament on Sunday in Philadelphia.
Bottone, who had achieved a second-round berth due to a walkover, fell in her singles match to Southern New Hampshire freshman Kaitlin Poje (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) in a one-set, 6-0 affair at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center. Meanwhile, Scali's dreams of going past the second round were dashed by freshman Abbygail Gamarnik (Jamison, Pa.) from host institution USciences. Scali dropped her one-set contest with Gamarnik by a score of 6-3. Gamarnik would eventually reach the semifinals of the ITA Tournament for the Devils, but she was defeated by eventual champion Nicole Downey of Stonehill.
Bottone and Scali will rejoin the rest of the Molloy College women's tennis team as the Lions play host to St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday (Sept. 26). First serve from Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis is set for 4 p.m.
