Scali, Bottone Advance to Day 2 of ITA East Regional for Women's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2015)- The Molloy College women's tennis team saw two of its players advance through the first day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's East Regional Tournament on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Freshman Megan Scali (Garrison, N.Y.) won her first-round 'B' singles match by an 8-5 score over Philadelphia's Tabitha Porter. Scali advances to tomorrow's second round of action as does fellow first-year Krystal Bottone (Wantagh, N.Y.), who defeated Stonehill's Caitlyn McKinney via a walk-over.

In first-round 'A' singles competition, senior Tatiana Rajaona (Paris, France) lost her match to Amina Mrad of Goldey-Beacom in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Rajaona and Scali would later team up in the 'B' doubles competition, falling 8-3 to their opponents from Merrimack. Junior Emily Rosen (Little Neck, N.Y.) and sophomore Christie Catterson (Amityville, N.Y.) also competed in the first round of 'B' doubles, but the tandem was dispatched by their opponents from Southern New Hampshire in an 8-2 decision.
Rosen was ousted in the first round of 'B' singles play by Lauren Makenchie of Southern New Hampshire in a gritty 9-7 match-up, while sophomore Tiffany Nagasawa (Lynbrook, N.Y.) lost her singles match, 8-0, to Daemen's Delaney Fringale. Catterson also lost her 'B' singles first-round contest by an 8-0 margin to SNHU's Yolanda Green.
