EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2015) - The Molloy College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands and rackets of Caldwell on Tuesday at Eisenhower Park. The loss drops Molloy to 0-5 on the season, while Caldwell improves to 2-1 on the 2015 campaign.
Freshman
Krystal Bottone (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up the Lions' lone point at the No. 6-singles flight. Bottone knocked off sophomore Debra Pellegrino (Valley Stream, N.Y.) in straight sets by a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline. Bottone is now 2-3 in singles matches for Molloy at the No. 6 position. Senior
Tatiana Rajaona (Paris, France) lost a tough match at the top flight of singles play to Tamara Klimek (Novi Sad, Serbia). Klimek won the first set by a 6-0 decision, but Rajaona fought back to take the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4). Klimek and Rajaona battled in the third and final set, but ultimately is was Caldwell's top singles player that came out with a 10-8 victory. Rajaona teamed with freshman
Megan Scali (Garrison, N.Y.) on the top doubles tandem for the maroon and white, but the pair lost to Klimek and senior Emily Slater (Cliffwood Beach, N.J.) in an 8-4 score.
Head Coach
Jeana Frey and the Molloy women's tennis team will now play in Philadelphia this coming weekend in the ITA Eastern Regional Tournament, beginning on Saturday (Sept. 19) and ending on Monday (Sept. 21).
