Baseball Splits with Dowling in ECC Twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UNIONDALE, N.Y. (May 2, 2015) – On Saturday, the Molloy College baseball squad split an East Coast Conference doubleheader with Dowling College at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y.  The Lions won Game 1, 8-3, before Dowling took Game 2, 8-0. With today's action, Molloy is now 22-22 and 10-13 in the ECC, while Dowling is now 26-13 and 14-9 in the league.

Game 1: Molloy 8, Dowling 3
The Lions scored three times in the opening inning to take a quick and early 3-0 lead. Sophomores Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.), Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) all had RBI singles. In the third inning, Murphy drove in two runs with a double to left field, and junior Nicholas Gonchar (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded a sacrifice fly to put Molloy ahead, 6-0.

Dowling scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth, before Molloy plated two additional runs in the bottom of the fifth – junior Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) and Alberghina each smacked RBI singles. Dowling scored its final run in the ninth, before Molloy locked down the 8-3 triumph.

On the hill, senior Alex Brosnan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was terrific in his final start in a Lions' uniform. He pitched eight innings, giving up three runs on six hits. He struck out 10. Freshman reliever Joseph Nastasi (South Salem, N.Y.) threw a scoreless ninth to secure the victory.

Game 2: Dowling 8, Molloy 0
Molloy's offense couldn't get anything going versus Dowling pitching in Game 2, getting shutout, 8-0. In the batter's box, Gonchar, senior John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Alberghina had Molloy's only three hits in the second contest.

On the mound for the Lions, sophomore Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) threw four innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on 11 hits. He whiffed four batters.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions will close out their 2015 season tomorrow at Dowling beginning at 12 p.m.
