Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2015) – On Monday, the Molloy College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y. In Game 1, the Lions defeated the Chargers, 8-5, while Dominican flipped the results in Game 2, winning 8-2. With today's action, the Lions are now 12-17 overall, while the Chargers are now 12-12.
Game 1: Molloy 8, Dominican 5
Molloy scored the first four runs of Game 1 when sophomore Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.) singled in freshman Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) in the first inning. Two frames later, freshman Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) smacked a two-run homer to give Molloy a 4-0 lead. Her dinger brought home Balinskas.
In the fourth, Dominican plated three runs to trim its deficit to 4-3. The Lions answered right back in the fifth when Fedor and Dalton crushed home runs. Fedor's was a solo shot, while Dalton's was of the three-run variety, bringing home Balinskas and Banulski.
Despite the Chargers scoring two more runs in the fifth and seventh innings, the Lions held them off and won, 8-5.
A the dish, Fedor and Balinskas went 3 for 4 each, while Dalton finished 2 for 4 with two homers and five RBIs.
Game 2: Dominican 8, Molloy 2
Behind 2-0, Molloy scored its first run of Game 2 when Balinskas singled home Fedor in the third inning. The Chargers went on to score six more times, before the Lions plated their final run of the day in the seventh. In that last inning, Banulski doubled home freshman Makayla Harris (Berlin, Conn.).
In Game 2, Balinskas went 3 for 4, finishing 6 for 8 on the afternoon.
