Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2015) – On Monday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team bested Bloomfield College in non-league play, 7-2, at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y. behind timely hitting and a strong start from sophomore hurler Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.). With the triumph, the Lions are now 14-12 overall, while the Bears slipped to 2-16 on the campaign.
Bloomfield took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but that was short-lived as the Lions scored in the bottom half of the frame. Freshman Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) tripled to the right center field wall, bringing around senior John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.).
The Bears plated their second and final run of the ballgame in the third via a wild pitch. From that point on, Molloy scored six unanswered runs stretching from the fourth inning to the eighth.
In the fourth, sophomore Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) scored via a balk, while in the fifth, freshman Christian Todd (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in Galanoudis with an RBI groundout. In the eighth, Molloy scored four times. Senior Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) scored on a throwing error by the Bloomfield catcher, followed by freshman Jack McCarty (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) both touching home plate on an two-run single from sophomore Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.). Molloy's final run came across when Galanoudis doubled in Alberghina.
On the hill, Bauer improved to 4-2 with six innings of two-run ball, although only one was earned. He struck out six and allowed five hits. Junior Peter Vath (Selden, N.Y.), sophomore Sean Gordon (Levittown, N.Y.) and junior Shea Spitzbarth (Staten Island, N.Y.) combined for three scoreless innings.
