#11 Men's Lacrosse Drops ECC Semifinal to #5 LIU Post, 15-7

Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2015) – On Wednesday evening, the #11 Molloy College men's lacrosse team played its first playoff game in program history as it suited up for an East Coast Conference Semifinal game at LIU Post. Unfortunately, the result wasn't the one the Lions were hoping for as Molloy fell to #5 LIU Post, 15-7, at Bethpage Stadium in Brookville, N.Y.  With the loss, the Lions conclude their 2015 campaign with an 11-4 overall ledger, while the Pioneers improve to 13-2 and move on to face NYIT in the ECC Championship game on Sunday. NYIT beat Mercy College earlier in the day in the other semifinal match-up, 13-7.

The first quarter was all-Pioneers as LIU Post scored four times. Sixty-four seconds into the second quarter, the Lions found their first goal when senior attacker Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored a man-up tally to cut Molloy's deficit to 4-1. Junior Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.) was responsible for the assist. One minute later, Leonard had his second goal of the contest, firing the ball past the LIU Post goalkeeper to make it 4-2.

Over the subsequent two minutes, the Pioneers took both of those goals back when Connor Drost and Chris Caiazza found the back of the cage. At the 10:36 mark, Molloy junior midfielder Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) scored his first marker of the game to cut into LIU Post's lead, 6-3. The second period was closed out with a trio of Pioneer goals and two Molloy goals – one from Clark and one from Teresky. The two teams headed into the intermission with the Pioneers in front, 9-5.

The third stanza played similar to the first quarter as the Pioneers scored four unanswered goals to take a 13-5 advantage. In the fourth period, Molloy scored its final two goals of the game at the 12:22 and 11:10 marks. The first of those tallies was recorded off the stick of Leonard as he completed the hat trick, while the second was scored by Clark, who also earned the hat trick. LIU Post scored twice more to take a 15-7 lead, which ended up being the final score.

In net for Molloy, freshman cageminder Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made seven saves.

This now concludes the 2015 campaign for Head Coach Eric Petrullo and the Lions' men's lacrosse program.
