Baseball Drops Non-Conference Battle to AIC, 4-2

Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2015) – On Wednesday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team played its final non-conference game of the 2015 campaign, falling to American International College, 4-2, at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y.  With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-19 overall, while the Lions slip to 20-21 on the season.

The Lions received the best start of freshman hurler Anthony Catinella's (Middle Village, N.Y.) collegiate career. Catinella fired a terrific 8.0 innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits. He struck out three batters on the afternoon.

Down 1-0 from the first inning, the Lions finally struck the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth when senior John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice, allowing senior Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) to touch home plate. Junior Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) scored on the same play as the AIC shortstop committed a throwing error.

In the very next half inning, the Yellow Jackets evened the score at 2-2 when Tyler Geffert reached on a Molloy throwing error, allowing C.J. Boykin to score. The two clubs headed to extra innings, needing more time to decide this match-up. In the top of the 11th, AIC scored the go-ahead two runs via an RBI double and a fielder's choice.

Molloy freshman pitcher Joseph Nastasi (South Salem, N.Y.) threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions return to the diamond on Friday, May 1 to play Dowling College in Brookhaven, N.Y.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
