Women's Lacrosse Bests Caldwell, 18-8

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2015) - The Molloy College women's lacrosse team bounced back against Caldwell University defeating the Cougars by the final score of 18-8 on Thursday evening. With the win, the Lions move back to .500 at 5-5, while the Cougars fall to 2-6 overall.

In the first half of play, the Lions scored at the 29:27 minute mark via a goal from freshman Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y) to kick off the scoring frenzy. The Lions scored three more times before the Cougars finally recorded their first tally when Daniela Constanzo made it 4-1. In that span, the Lions received a contribution from graduate student Shannon Defliese (Garden City, N.Y), who scored twice. The Lions rattled off another four straight goals -- three from junior Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and one from sophomore Brittany Lang (Hicksville, N.Y.). The Lions also netted off the sof sophomore Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y). The Lions led 12-4 at halftime as the Cougars scored three more times before the end of the first half.

Much of the second half was played with a running clock as the Lions scored two more times on goals from Sesselman and senior Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.). The Lions took a 14-4 lead, which was extended to 17-4 after three tallies by sophomore Laura Rice (New Hyde Park., N.Y). The Cougars responded by scoring another four times, while junior Ariana Cavallone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the season to change the score to 18-8, which ended up being the final. 

For the game, the Lions were led by Sesselman, who had four goals and one assist, while both Rice and O'Brien had three goals each. Markowitz continued her strong freshman campaign with another two goals and two assists. In net, senior goalie Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y) made eight saves for the Lions.

Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions return to action on Saturday, April 4 when they host UDC at 12 p.m.
