Fedor's Two Homers Help Softball Sweep Bridgeport

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2015) – On Thursday, the Molloy College softball team swept a doubleheader from the University of Bridgeport to improve to 11-14 overall and 7-2 in the East Coast Conference. With the losses, the Purple Knights fell to 4-14 (0-4 ECC).

Game 1: Molloy 15, Bridgeport 7 (5 innings)
In the day's opening contest, Molloy eventually was able to achieve an eight-run lead and run-rule the Purple Knights. A big part of that equation was sophomore third baseman Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.), who smacked two homers and drove in five runs in Game 1. Freshman center fielder Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) finished 2 for 2 with three runs scored, while rookie shortstop Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. In the circle, junior Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) struggled, but earned the win to improve to 5-7 on the year.

Game 2: Molloy 6, Bridgeport 5
The Purple Knights went up 3-0 following two home runs, but that would be their final lead of the game as the Lions scored five unanswered. Molloy's final two runs of that burst was courtesy of a home run from freshman Sarah Rambo (Eagleville, Pa.). Behind 5-3, Meghan O'Leary tied the game with a two-run homer of her own in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Lions were able to plate the deciding run when freshman Bernadette Mullane (Bellmore, N.Y.) singled to center field, scoring Dalton.

In the circle, sophomore Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) improved her record to 5-5 after going 4.2 innings, giving up two runs.

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to action tomorrow when they travel to Queens College to play a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
