Baseball Falls in 13-Inning Heartbreaker to Queens, 2-1

Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 19, 2015) – The Molloy College baseball team played Queens College in an absolute thrilling pitchers' duel on Sunday afternoon in Flushing, N.Y.  The two teams battled for 13 innings, with the Knights eventually securing the 2-1 win to improve to 8-18 overall and 4-12 in the East Coast Conference. With the loss, the Lions fell to 19-16 (7-9 ECC).

Molloy sophomore starter Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) was fantastic. He went 11 innings, surrendering just one run on five hits. He struck out eight batters and lowered his season ERA to 3.19. Junior reliever Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) hurled a scoreless 12th inning, before giving way to freshman Joseph Nastasi (South Salem, N.Y.), who was strapped with the loss as he gave up the game-winning run.

The game's other runs were scored earlier on. The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning via a sacrifice fly. The Lions responded a half inning later when Guzman singled home sophomore Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.), tying the game at 1-1.

Molloy loaded the bases in the top of the 13th inning, but wasn't able to scratch a run across.

In the game, a total of 19 runners were left on base between the two clubs.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions will next play their final non-conference regular season game on Tuesday, April 21 at Dominican College. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
