Women's Lacrosse Upends Queens, 19-8

Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 18, 2015) – On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College women's lacrosse squad picked up a commanding 19-8 East Coast Conference win over Queens College to improve to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the league. Following the loss, the Knights fell to 3-8 on the season (1-5 ECC).

The Lions kicked off the scoring with six straight goals, including two each from sophomore Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and rookie Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.). Queens cut its deficit to 6-2 before Molloy reeled off another four consecutive tallies. Two of those four goals came off the stick of senior Casey Naab (Floral Park, N.Y.).

Following Queens' third goal, the Lions closed out the first half with four unanswered of their own. At halftime, Molloy led, 14-3.

Four minutes into the second stanza, the Knights cut their deficit to 15-5 before Molloy found the back of the cage three straight times. Molloy scored once more, and although Queens scored another four times, the Knights ultimately fell short, 19-8.

For Molloy, Naab, Markowitz, Sesselman and graduate student Shannon Defliese (Garden City, N.Y.) all scored three times, while Defliese also had three assists and Sesselman dished out two assists. Juniors Kim Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.) and Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals, while senior Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.), sophomore Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Taylor Corcoran (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored one goal apiece. In addition, Orlando passed out four assists.

In the cage, senior Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) made 13 saves.

Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions return to action for their regular season finale on Saturday, April 25 when they host Mercy College beginning at 12 p.m.  It's also Senior Day for the Lions' women's lacrosse program.
