#11 Men's Lacrosse Tops ECC-Opponent UDC, 22-13

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 18, 2015) - The #11 Molloy College men's lacrosse team defeated the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon, 22-13. With the win, the Lions improve to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in the East Coast Conference, while the Firebirds fell to 2-8 on the season (1-6 ECC). Senior attack Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.) tied a program record for 13 points in one game with eight goals and five assists.

In the first quarter, the Firebirds struck first with a goal from Russell Lloyd. the Lions tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from senior Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) The Lions then reeled off five straight goals before the Firebirds scored their second marker of the game. In that 5-0 run, Engelhardt had three goals. 

In the second period, the Lions opened the scoring with a goal from junior Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), which made it, 6-2 in favor of Molloy. The Firebirds then netted two consecutive goals, however, the Lions responded with Engelhardt's fourth tally of the contest. The Lions' piping-hot offense recorded another goal to make it 8-4 -- off the stick of sophomore Jon Composa (Syosett, N.Y.).

Molloy found the back of the netting to make it, 9-4, on Clark's second of the game, before UDC's Darien McPhail Millard scored to make it 9-5. Lions' junior Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.) turned the score to 11-5 in the second quarter, which was followed by Leonard's second marker. At halftime, the scoreboard read: Molloy 11, UDC 5.

The Firebirds scored two more goals to make it 11-7, before Engelhardt's fifth goal changed the scoreboard to 12-7 in the third period. Molloy scored four straight in that third quarter, started by Engelhardt's sixth of the game and Clark's third of the contest. Teresky went on to score his third of the afternoon to make it 15-8 in favor of the hosts. Sophomore Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) joined in on the action with his first goal to make it 16-8. Engelhardt scored his seventh goal of the contest, which was followed by freshman Tim Steinman's (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) first tally. 

In the fourth stanza, the Lions made it 20-9 after a goal from freshman Zach Antonette (Seaford, N.Y.) Molloy's final two goals came off the sticks of Engelhardt and Steinman. 

For the game, the Lions were led by Engelhardt's eight goals and five assists, while Leonard had two goals and four assists. Teresky and Clark finished with three goals, while Steinman had two.

In net, freshman Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made 10 saves.

Head Coach Eric Petrullo and the Lions return to action on Wednesday, April 22 when they host American International College at 6 p.m.
