Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2015) – On Friday, the Molloy College baseball team cruised past Queens College, 11-1, in Flushing, N.Y. to improve to 17-15 on the year and 5-8 in the East Coast Conference. Following the loss, the Knights drop to 7-16 and 3-10 in league play.
The Lions blanked Queens for the first eight innings of the ballgame. Molloy found its offense in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring six runs and five runs, respectively. Senior
Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) started off the scoring with a two-run double, which was followed by a
Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) RBI single. Sophomore
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) copied Guzman with an RBI single of his own, before a Queens fielding error forced another run home. The fifth frame was capped off with sophomore
Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) singling home senior
John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.).
In the top of the sixth, Guzman reached via an error, allowing sophomore
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) to touch home plate. Alberghina then recorded a two-run single. Podell wrapped up the scoring with an RBI via a fielder's choice, before Alberghina scored on a wild pitch.
Queens scored its lone run in the ninth on an RBI single.
On the hill, junior
Shea Spitzbarth (Staten Island, N.Y.) hurled 6.0 innings of shutout baseball. He surrendered just two hits and struck out 13 batters. Junior
Peter Vath (Selden, N.Y.) came in out of the bullpen to pitch three scoreless innings, striking out four.
