Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPARKILL, N.Y. (Apr. 12, 2015) – On Sunday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader with St. Thomas Aquinas College. In Game 1, Molloy won, 6-3, but the Spartans took Game 2, 7-3. Following the day's action, the Lions are now 15-20 overall and 10-5 in the league, while the Spartans are now 9-20 (3-13 ECC).

Game 1: Molloy 6, St. Thomas Aquinas 3
In the opening game, the Lions powered their offense courtesy of three home runs. In the second inning, freshman Sarah Rambo (Eagleville, Pa.) cranked a solo shot, while junior Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) did the same in the third. In the fifth, freshman Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) singled home fellow rookie Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) to make it 3-0.

The Spartans tied the game on one swing of the bat in the sixth inning as a bases-loaded triple knotted the affair at 3-3. The very next inning, however, Dalton smacked a two-run homer, bringing home Balinskas. The Lions' final run scored when senior Victoria Gunnels (North Bellmore, N.Y.) touched home plate on a passed ball.

In the circle, sophomore Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) evened her record at 7-7. She went the complete game, surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits. She struck out six batters.

Game 2: St. Thomas Aquinas 7, Molloy 3
The Spartans scored the first five runs of the game, before Molloy plated its three in the fifth frame. Sophomore Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) singled in freshman Alexandra Russo (Coram, N.Y.) and Rambo, followed by Banulski singling home rookie Bernadette Mullane (Bellmore, N.Y.). Over the course of the final two frames, St. Thomas Aquinas scored twice to secure the 7-3 triumph.

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to action on Tuesday, April 14 to host NYIT beginning at 3 p.m.  Prior to Game 1 of the doubleheader, the Molloy softball team will honor its three graduating seniors: Brianne Catalano, Victoria Gunnels and Brenda Lee. Tuesday is also Strikeout Cancer Day.
