Baseball Splits Double Dip with Bridgeport

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 12, 2015) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team split a doubleheader with the University of Bridgeport, winning the first game, 5-2, and falling in the second game, 7-2. With the split, the Lions are now 15-14 overall (4-7 East Coast Conference), while the Purple Knights are now 13-18 overall and 9-6 in the league.

Game 1: Molloy 5, Bridgeport 2
In the first game, the Lions scored in the third inning after a single from sophomore Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) plated senior Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) giving Molloy a 1-0 lead. That lead would be short-lived as in the fourth, the Purple Knights scored two runs to give Bridgeport a 2-1 lead. In the seventh, the Lions brought home four runs to take a 5-2 advantage -- one which they wouldn't relinquish. In that inning, senior John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) blasted a home run, sophomore Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) had a sacrifive fly and Bauer bopped an RBI double.

Senior starter Alex Brosnan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) went all nine innings for the complete game. He surrendered just two runs and struck out six.

Game 2: Bridgeport 7, Molloy 2
In the second game, the Lions and Purple Knights put up matching zeroes until the fourth inning when Bridgeport scored via a home run from Tim Bickford. Then, Dylan Steigerwald's sacrifice fly gave Bridgeport a 3-0 lead. The Lions responded in the sixth inning with an RBI groundout from sophomore Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) and a wild pitch that scored freshman Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.), which would cut the Lions deficit to 3-2. However, in the seventh the Purple Knights plated four runs to take the 7-2 victory.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and his team closes out its ECC series with Bridgeport on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Bridgeport, Conn.
