(Mar. 31, 2015) - In Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team was only able to get in one of the two schedule games versus East Coast Conference-opponent Mercy College due to the rain. In Game 1, the Mavericks were on the winning side, 10-3, improving to 2-16 overall (1-4 ECC). The Lions slipped to 9-14 overall and 5-2 in the league.
Behind 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Lions tied the game when sophomore
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.) scored on a passed ball. The Lions took a 2-1 lead on that same play when freshman
Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) advanced to third base on the aforementioned passed ball and then scored on a throwing error by Mercy's catcher. The Mavericks took a 4-2 lead in the next inning when Jackie Couillard bopped a three-run homer to left center.
Molloy scored its third and final run of the afternoon in the sixth inning when junior
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) deposit a 1-0 pitch over the right centerfield wall for a solo homer. It was her third on the season.
Mercy used the sixth inning to score six more times to take a 10-3, which ended up being the final score.
For Molloy, Balinskas finished 3 for 3, while in the circle, junior
Samantha Sauer (Plainview, N.Y.) was strapped with the loss to fall to 1-2.
