Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 30, 2015) - On Monday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team wrapped up its East Coast Conference series with LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y. with a 9-2 loss to the Pioneers. After today's result, the Lions fell to 9-12 overall and 3-5 in the league, while the Pioneers improved to 8-6 (6-2 ECC).
Down 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning, the Lions plated their first run of the game when sophomore Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled up the middle. Fellow sophomore Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) came home on the base hit. LIU Post went on to record another four runs in the seventh frame to take a 9-1 advantage. Molloy scored its second and final run in the top of the eighth when Alberghina scored via a wild pitch.
On the hill for Molloy, sophomore Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) struggled, going 3.0 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits. He struck out five batters. Junior Peter Vath (Selden, N.Y.) and freshman Shawn Klotsche (Wantagh, N.Y.) came on in relief to hurl 4.2 scoreless innings.
At the dish, Alberghina went 3 for 3 today, while freshman Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished 2 for 4.
Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions return to action tomorrow when they host Caldwell University at 3:30 p.m. from Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y.
