Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Versus St. Thomas Aquinas

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 28, 2015) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team swept a pair of games from East Coast Conference-opponent St. Thomas Aquinas College by the final scores of 28-2 (5 innings) and 12-4 (6 innings). With the wins, the Lions improved to 8-12 overall and 4-0 in the league, while the Spartans fell to 5-9 on the year (1-2 ECC).

The Lions had an offensive outbreak in Game 1 totaling 28 runs to claim the victory. Sophomore Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) went 5 for 6 with six RBIs, while freshman Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) and Alexandra Russo (Coram, N.Y.) had three RBIs each. In the circle, sophomore Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) went 4.0 innings, giving up two runs (one earned).

In Game 2 today, the Lions kicked off the bottom of the first inning by scoring five runs -- started by junior Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) smacking a two-run double. Ten different Molloy hitters had at least one hit this afternoon, including a 3 for 4 performance from Balinskas and sophomore Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.). In the circle, Balinskas went all six innings to earn the win (4-6).

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to the field tomorrow (Sunday, March 29) when they play NYIT at Bob Klein Field beginning at 3 p.m.  NYIT will serve as the home team in both contests.
