Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 27, 2015) - This evening, the Molloy College women's lacrosse team defeated the Wildcats of Wilmington University (Del.), 16-9. The win improves the Lions to 4-4 overall, while the Wildcats fall to 2-6 overall.
The Lions opened the game scoring seven goals in a nine-minute span. The first goal of the game was scored by freshman Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.), continuing her hot play where she was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Three of the seven goals the Lions scored in the 7-0 run were from junior Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.). The Wildcats answered with a run of their own before halftime -- interspersed between three additional Molloy markers -- scoring five goals to change the score at the intermission, 10-5 in favor of the Lions.
In the second half, the Lions sizzling offensive rhythm continued as they went on a five-goal run over the first 12 minutes of the period. In the burst, sophomore Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored twice. The Wildcats netted three of the last four goals of the game, but it ultimately wasn't enough as the Lions went on to win, 16-9.
For the game, O'Brien finished with a team-high four goals, while Markowitz and Sesselman each had three goals. Senior Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.) recorded four assists to lead the Lions.
In net for Molloy, senior cageminder Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) made 14 saves.
CAMPY'S CAREER: Tonight's win marks the 80th career coaching victory for Head Coach Tom Campolettano at Molloy College...Coach Campolettano has been the team's only coach in the program's 10-year existence.
