Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Mar. 25, 2015) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team defeated Bloomfield College in non-conference action, 8-5 at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y. With the win, the Lions improved to 8-9 overall, while the Bears fell to 1-9 on the year.
Molloy scored the first three runs of the game over the opening two frames. Junior
Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) started off the scoring coming home on a wild pitch, before freshman
Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) did the same. Guzman, in his second at-bat of the game, drove in sophomore
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly.
In the third and fifth innings, the Bears plated five runs to take a 5-3 advantage. That didn't last long as two frames later, Molloy sophomore
Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) smacked a two-run double down the left field line, bringing in Guzman and freshman
Jack McCarty (Huntington, N.Y.). That two-bagger tied the game at 5-all. In the same inning, Alberghina and Podell each scored via wild pitches. Molloy scored its final run in the eighth inning via an RBI single by Podell.
On the hill, the Lions went with a pitcher-by-committee approach. In the final 4.2 innings of the game, freshmen
Shawn Klotsche (Wantagh, N.Y.) and
Joseph Nastasi (South Salem, N.Y.) threw shutout innings. Klotsche earned the win to improve to 1-1, while Nastasi picked up his first collegiate save.
