Baseball Records 8-5 Triumph Versus Bloomfield

Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Mar. 25, 2015) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team defeated Bloomfield College in non-conference action, 8-5 at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y.  With the win, the Lions improved to 8-9 overall, while the Bears fell to 1-9 on the year.

Molloy scored the first three runs of the game over the opening two frames. Junior Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) started off the scoring coming home on a wild pitch, before freshman Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) did the same. Guzman, in his second at-bat of the game, drove in sophomore Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly.

In the third and fifth innings, the Bears plated five runs to take a 5-3 advantage. That didn't last long as two frames later, Molloy sophomore Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) smacked a two-run double down the left field line, bringing in Guzman and freshman Jack McCarty (Huntington, N.Y.). That two-bagger tied the game at 5-all. In the same inning, Alberghina and Podell each scored via wild pitches. Molloy scored its final run in the eighth inning via an RBI single by Podell.

On the hill, the Lions went with a pitcher-by-committee approach. In the final 4.2 innings of the game, freshmen Shawn Klotsche (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Joseph Nastasi (South Salem, N.Y.) threw shutout innings. Klotsche earned the win to improve to 1-1, while Nastasi picked up his first collegiate save.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions return to the diamond on Friday afternoon to host LIU Post at 3:30 p.m.
