Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Mar. 23, 2015) - On Monday afternoon, Molloy College sophomore starting pitcher
Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) dazzled with eight innings of one-run ball to propel the Lions to a 4-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College. With the win, the Lions are now 6-9 overall (1-2 East Coast Conference), while the Spartans slipped to 5-5-1 on the year and 2-1 in the league.
Molloy grabbed its first run of the ballgame in the second inning when sophomore third baseman
Kevin Podell (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored senior catcher
Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) via an RBI infield single. Podell was at it again in the fourth frame as he drove in Molloy's second run of the game. This time, he punched an RBI single through the right side of the infield, plating junior shortstop
Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.). Two batters later, junior second baseman
Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) drove in sophomore right fielder
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) with an RBI single through the left side to give Molloy a 3-0 lead.
A Spartans' RBI single would cut Molloy's advantage to 3-1 in the sixth, but the Lions took that run back in the seventh when Van Duyne smacked a two-out double to score sophomore DH
Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.).
In eight innings of work, Kelly gave up one run on six hits and struck out seven. He now moves to 2-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to a tidy 2.86. Sophomore reliever
Sean Gordon (Levittown, N.Y.) entered in the ninth and secured his first save of the year.
