Women's Lacrosse Bests Chestnut Hill, 15-10

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 19, 2015) - This evening, the Molloy College women's lacrosse team defeated Chestnut Hill College, 15-10, to return to .500 at 3-3 overall. Following the loss, the Griffins fell to 2-3 on the campaign.

The Lions scored 13 goals in the first half to take a 13-3 lead into the break with the help of freshman midfielder Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.), who scored an astounding five goals. Sophomore Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) kicked off the scoring with a goal at the 27:51 mark. After Chestnut Hill tied the contest two minutes later, Molloy reeled off five straight goals over a 3-minute span. Three of those five goals belonged to Markowitz, while the other two were scored by senior Casey Naab (Floral Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).

Before the half was over, Markowitz tallied another two, Sesselman scored another two for the hat trick, and Watson added her second of the game. Scoring their first goals of the game was sophomore Taylor Corcoran (Holbrook, N.Y.) and junior Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.).

Following the intermission, the Lions had luckily mounted a great lead from the first half since they only scored twice in the next 30 minutes. The Griffins ended up scoring seven goals in the second stanza to cut their deficit to five, but it was too little too late. Time was not on Chestnut Hill's side, who lost, 15-10. In the second half, Molloy received goals from Sesselman -- her fourth of the night -- and junior transfer Kim Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.).

For the game, the Lions were led by Markowitz (5 goals, 1 assist) and Sesselman (4 goals), while O'Brien had one goal and dished out three assists. Graduate student Shannon Defliese (Garden City, N.Y.) also had three assists. In net for the Lions, senior goalie Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) made two saves.

Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions return to action on Wednesday, March 25 when they travel to Brookhaven, N.Y. to take on Dowling College under the lights at 7 p.m.
