Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. (Mar. 16, 2015) - On Monday, the Molloy College softball team defeated Philadelphia University in the first game of its doubleheader, 6-1, before falling to Augustana College of South Dakota in Game 2 by the same score. With today's action, the Lions are now 4-8 overall.
Game 1: Molloy 6, Philadelphia 1In the fourth inning, Molloy freshman shortstop
Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) cranked her first collegiate home run to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of that inning, the Rams scored on an RBI single up the middle to tie the score at 1-all. The very next inning Molloy grabbed the lead for good as freshman
Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) singled in fellow rookie
Nina Gaita (Eastport, N.Y.). The Lions posted their breakout inning in the seventh as four runs came across home plate. Banulski and sophomore
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.) coordinated a double steal in which Clinton stole home to give the Lions a 3-1 advantage. Following that play, junior
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) singled in Banulski. Balinskas scored when senior
Victoria Gunnels (North Bellmore, N.Y.) reached via an error, and then Molloy's final run of the game came when Dalton singled home Gunnels.
In the circle, sophomore hurler
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) went all seven innings, giving up just one run on three hits. She struck out four.
Game 2: Augustana 6, Molloy 1The Lions' method for bringing across the game's first run in Game 2 was the same as their method in Game 1 -- a solo homer. This time it was Balinskas who bopped a dinger to center field to give Molloy a 1-0 lead in the first frame. However, unlike the first game of the day, that would be the only run the Lions scored for the remaining six innings. Augustana was able to plate runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to secure the 6-1 win.
In the circle for the Lions, Balinskas struggled, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits. She whiffed five batters.
Head Coach
