Box Score LANTANA, Fla. (Mar. 13, 2015) - On Friday afternoon, the Molloy College baseball team fell to Southern Connecticut State University down in Lantana, Fla. at the Santaluces Athletic and Aquatic Complex, 6-5. With the win, the Owls improve to 6-6 overall, while the Lions slip to 2-5 on the season.
The Lions went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning via a two-run single from graduate student
John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and an RBI single from freshman
Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.). Junior
Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.), sophomore
Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) and junior
Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) all touched home plate in the first frame.
The Owls took two of those runs back in the fourth inning off of Molloy senior starter
Alex Brosnan (Farmingdale, N.Y.), although both were unearned. In the bottom of the fourth, Rahn tripled in Guzman to put Molloy on top, 4-2.
Once again the Lions and Owls traded runs in the fifth inning. In the top half of the frame, Southern Connecticut scored via an RBI single, while in the bottom portion, Molloy senior
Kyle Van Duyne (Sayville, N.Y.) doubled in Navetta. After five innings, Molloy led, 5-3.
That would be the final run of the game scored by the Lions. The Owls plated a run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings off of Molloy's bullpen. Although the Lions threatened with two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, the Owls' Mike Yerina locked down the save.
For Molloy, Brosnan received the no-decision, pitching five innings. He allowed three runs (one earned) on eight hits, striking out four.
