(Mar. 11, 2015) - On Wednesday evening, the Molloy College women's lacrosse team defeated Georgian Court University in its 2015 home opener, 14-8 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Following the win, Molloy is now 2-2 overall, while Georgian Court falls to 1-2 on the young season.
The scoring began early and often for the Lions as they scored eight goals in the first half of play and took an 8-2 lead into the break. From 23:42 to 18:28 of the first half (a 5:14 span), Molloy scored five times. The fourth and fifth goals in that spurt were notched by sophomore midfielder
Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).
Georgian Court applied pressure to start the second half as the guests scored the first four of the period's five goals, which cut Molloy's lead down to 9-6. However, Molloy turned it on when it needed to and netted the next five of seven goals.
For the game, senior attack
Casey Naab (Floral Park, N.Y.), freshman midfielder
Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Sesselman all scored four goals, while junior midfielder
Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) had one goal and five assists. Senior netminder
Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) made seven saves.
Head Coach
Tom Campolettano and the Lions return to action this Saturday, March 14 when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to take on the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College. The opening draw control of this East Coast Conference matchup is set for 12 p.m.
