Women's Basketball Takes Down St. Thomas Aquinas, 72-54

Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2015) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's basketball squad won in convincing fashion over the St. Thomas Aquinas College, 72-54. The Lions move to 10-11 overall and 6-8 in East Coast Conference action, while the Spartans fall to 9-14 overall and 5-9 in league play.
 
In the first half, the Lions shot an astounding 49.2% from the field -- compared to the Spartans 34.9% shooting clip. The Lions also shot 42.9% from three-point land, draining six threes.
 
At halftime, Molloy led by a margin of 40-23 over the Spartans. That advantage was aided by junior Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) and senior guard Sabrina Padro (Bronx, N.Y.) teaming up for 16 points.

The first half would feature back and forth action between the two squads with one tie and six lead changes. The Lions took over the game at the 11:20 mark (first half) and never looked back. In the game, the Lions led by as many as 24 points, which was the highwater mark with 1:48 remaining in regulation.
 
For the contest, Molloy was paced by sophomore guard Maggie Salomone (Narrangesett, R.I.) and her 16 points (5-9 from the field); she also was 3-5 from downtown. Padro finished the game with 15 points, junior forward Allison Smith ( lairstown, N.J.) netted 11 and O'Connor had 12 points. Senior guard/forward Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) corralled an incredible 17 rebounds, which set a new career-high.  

Head Coach Kate Lynch and the Lions are idle until Saturday, January 14 when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the University of the District of Columbia at 3 p.m.
