Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 28, 2015) - On Saturday, the Molloy College men's lacrosse team ventured up to Rochester, N.Y. to open East Coast Conference play with Roberts Wesleyan College. With the help of four goals from senior attack
Joe Leonard (Hicksville, N.Y.) and three goals from senior midfielder
Tom Engelhardt (Bethpage, N.Y.), the Lions edged the Redhawks, 10-9 at RWC Lacrosse Field. The Lions improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in ECC action, while Roberts Wesleyan falls to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
In the opening quarter, both teams scored twice, trading goals back and forth. Leonard had both markers for the Lions, while junior
Tom Turner (East Rockaway, N.Y.) assisted on the second one.
In the second period, the Lions dominated, scoring four times, while the Redhawks found the back of the cage just once. In this quarter, Engelhardt scored three times, while senior
Sal Geneva (Hicksville, N.Y.) netted the other tally.
Following halftime, Roberts Wesleyan scored a pair of unanswered goals to cut its deficit to 6-5. However, Leonard scored his third of the game, while junior midfielder
Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) joined in on the scoring party to put Molloy ahead, 8-6.
In the final quarter, the Redhawks scored three goals -- to Molloy's two goals -- but, it wasn't enough as Molloy held on for the 10-9 victory.
Leonard added four assists to his four goals for a total of eight points. Engelhardt posted four points on three goals and one assist. In the cage, freshman goalie
Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots in the win.
