Baseball Falls to Stonehill, #19 Franklin Pierce in Myrtle Beach

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Feb. 22, 2015) - On Saturday, the Molloy College baseball team continued its Myrtle Beach, S.C. trip with a doubleheader versus Stonehill College and #19 Franklin Pierce University. The Lions weren't able to scratch across more than two runs in either game, falling to Stonehill, 9-2, and Franklin Pierce, 6-2. Molloy is now 0-3 to begin the season.

Game 1: Stonehill 9, Molloy 2
Sophomore Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) earned the start for game #2 of the season and pitched fairly effectively. He surrendered two runs in 5.1 innings of work, striking out an impressive nine batters. In relief, freshman Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) struggled, giving up seven runs (six earned) in 3.2 frames. He whiffed six batters.

Offensively, the Lions plated both of their runs in the eighth inning. Senior left fielder John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had an RBI single, scoring junior shortstop Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.), while junior Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) plated the aforementioned Galanoudis with an RBI double. Rahn finished the game 3-for-4, while Galanoudis was 2-for-4.

Game 2: #19 Franklin Piere 6, Molloy 2
Molloy took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Rahn reached on a fielding error committed by Franklin Pierce's shortstop, allowing sophomore centerfielder Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) to touch home plate. Franklin Pierce then grabbed three runs in the next two innings to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore starter Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) struggled on the hill for the Lions. Bauer, in his first collegiate start -- as well as his first-ever collegiate pitching appearance -- went 5.0 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He whiffed four hitters. Sophomore Sean Gordon (Levittown, N.Y.) and junior Peter Vath (Selden, N.Y.) were excellent in relief, pitching a combined 3.0 innings, giving up one run, although it was unearned.

John Galanoudis supplied Molloy with its second run of the game when he blasted his first home run of the year.
