Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2015) - The Molloy College women's basketball team upset one of the top teams in the East Coast Conference when the Lions bested the New York Institute of Technology this afternoon, 88-77. With the win, the Lions improve to 11-13 overall and 7-10 in ECC play, while the Bears fall to 15-9 and 11-6 in conference action.
In the first half, the Lions were led by senior guard/forward
Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) and her hot shooting as she went 5-5 from the field and 4-4 from downtown for a total of 18 points.
The Lions shot 61.3 % from the field, which was astounding compared with the Bears shooting 33% from the floor. With this shooting clip, the Lions were able to build up a double-digit lead. In addition, Molloy shot an extremely high percentage from three-point range -- 70% in the first half (7 for 10).
Throughout the first 20 minutes of the contest, the Lions and Bears would trade buckets frequently. The Lions added to their lead reaching double digits after a three-ball by senior center
Megan Lonergan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) with 7:49 left in the first half. The highwater mark for the game for the Lions was 19 after Arnone knocked down a trey with 3:08 left in the first stanza.
In the second period, the Lions withstood runs from the Bears. NYIT would only get as close as nine points on one occasion.
For the game, Arnone finished with 23 points (tied for the game-high), while junior forward
Ally Leftridge (Melville, N.Y.) netted 18 (7-13 from the field). Lonergan chipped in with 11 points and senior center
Allison Smith (Blairstown, N.J.) added 10 points and 11 rebounds giving her a double-double.
The Bears were led by Julie Williams and her 23 points (7-22 from the field).
