Women's Basketball Falls to LIU Post, 76-62

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2015) - On Wednesday night, the Molloy College women's basketball team lost to LIU Post in East Coast Conference action, 76-62. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 15-9 overall and 11-5 in the league, while the Lions slipped to 10-13 overall (6-10 ECC). Currently, the Lions are on the outside looking in in regards to the ECC standings and a playoff spot.

Although the Lions led by as many as 15 points in the first half, Molloy kept working and chipped away at its lead. The score at halftime read 41-32 in favor of LIU Post.

Halfway through the second period, the Pioneers regained a double-digit lead, but that didn't stop the Lions from attempting a comeback. Throughout the remaining nine minutes of the ballgame, the Lions continued to work, but couldn't quite cut their deficit past seven points and eventually siimply ran out of time.

For the Lions, junior wing Kimani Jackson (Dix Hills, N.Y.) had a fantastic night scoring 21 points -- missing tying her career-high by just one point. Senior center Allison Smith (Blairstown, N.J.) added eight points, while sophomore guard Maggie Salomone (Narragansett, R.I.) contibuted seven.

For the Pioneers, Chelsea Williams finished with 26 points and six rebounds, while Ashley Castle had 22 points. Nyasia Davis recorded the double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Head Coach Kate Lynch and the Lions return to the hardwood on Saturday, February 21 when they host the New York Institute of Technology at 12 p.m. It's also Wounded Warrior Day as a pair of Wounded Warrior Project veterans will be honored and recognized prior to tipoff.
