HOPKINTON, N.H. (Nov. 8, 2015)Â - On a chilly Sunday morning at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds, the Molloy cross country programs saw the 2015 fall campaign come to an end in the NCAA Northeast Regional competition. The men's team finished 11th out of 28 institutions while the women were 27th in the meet, and neither team will be sending qualifiers to Joplin, Mo. for the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship.
In the men's event, seniorÂ
Mike Darnell (Wantagh, N.Y.)Â concluded a spectacular final season of cross country racing by finishing 14th on the 10K course. Darnell posted a 5:10.4 average mile and finished the entire course in a time of 32:08.62. The senior was the third-highest finisher among East Coast Conference runners, placing behind Thomas Rodger and Justin Bender of Roberts Wesleyan in the meet. Conor Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y.). Gallagher sported a 29th-place finish with a time of 32:40.30 and a mile pace of 5:15.5 in the ten-kilometer meet.Â
Continuing on with the Lions' performance in the men's race, freshmanÂ
Brian Michels (Patchogue, N.Y.)Â completed a year worthy of the caliber of his ECC Rookie of the Year distinction by taking 70th overall (34:13.95, 5:30.6 mile pace). Furthermore, sophomoreÂ
Travis Laderer (Sea Cliff, N.Y.)Â crossed the line in 88th place with a time of 35:00.93. Lastly, seniorÂ
Thomas Dreyer (Floral Park, N.Y.), who competed in his last cross country race for Molloy as well, was 96th (35:15.08) in the 189-runner invitational.
On the women's side, freshmanÂ
Gabriella Martins (East Meadow, N.Y.)Â was the highest finisher of the Lions' harriers in the meet by placing 136th (25:38.63).
