Molloy College Spirit Week/Homecoming Set For Oct. 13-16

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2015) - Molloy College fans will have plenty of reason to hang around in Rockville Centre and the surrounding areas from Sunday (Oct. 11) through the following Sunday (Oct. 18). In what promises to be the most action-packed and fun-filled week of the fall, Molloy will present Spirit Week and Homecoming for Molloy students, student-athletes, parents, and friends and family alike.

Kicking off the action on Sunday (Oct. 11) will be the Molloy College women's rugby team hosting Montclair State in a 1 p.m. match at Mitchel Field. The Lions are currently 4-1 this season, having won their previous four matches by a combined score of 186-17. On Monday (Oct. 12), the Molloy women's tennis team hosts Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m. at the Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis Complex. This will be the last home conference match of the season with the maroon and white hosting Post University on Wednesday (Oct. 14) in the Lions' fall home finale.

Tuesday (Oct. 13) will see the beginning of Spirit Week for the Molloy College student body, faculty and administration. The day will also be "Pajama Day" as Molloy students are encouraged to dress in pajamas as they attend classes. That evening, the Molloy College volleyball team hosts Queens (N.Y.) College at Quealy Gymnasium at 6 p.m.

Wednesday (Oct. 14) will feature a collision of decades and time warps on campus as Molloy celebrates "Way Back Wednesday". In a show of favorites, the students of Molloy (and professors, too) will be dressing up in clothes and costumes representing different decades of time. There could be a bevy of different outfits on campus ranging from poodle skirts and motorcycle jackets of the 1950s to leg warmers and parachute pants of the 1980s and more.  Additionally, the night concludes with the aforementioned tennis match versus Post as well as a women's soccer game and the latest chapter of the "Lions vs. Golden Lions" rivalry when Molloy College hosts Dowling College at Skelos Sports Complex at 6 p.m.

On Thursday (Oct. 15), Molloy will be in full focus as the day will be marked by a "Molloy-Out". Students and professors will be asked to dress from head to toe in Molloy gear, ranging from hats and sweatshirts to polos and sweatpants and even socks and sneakers that showcase the best maroon that Molloy has to offer. At night, the Molloy College volleyball team takes center stage at Quealy Gymnasium as the Lions host NYIT at 6 p.m. Following the game, the annual tradition of Maroon Madness will commence for students to get their first glimpse of the Molloy men's and women's basketball teams. There will be high-flying dunks, three-point shooting perfomances, giveaways, fan contests and a few other surprises that will have to be seen to be believed!

As if the Homecoming week cannot get more exciting, Friday (Oct. 16) will mark the beginning of Homecoming, Alumni and Reunion Weekend on campus. The men's and women's soccer teams host Saint Thomas Aquinas College at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex with competitions and games taking place during halftime of both games. At the halfway point of the women's game, which starts at 4 p.m., teams and clubs in attendance will have one representative participating in a skills competition that will draw cheers, laughs and all-around excitement. Then in between the two halves of the 7 p.m. men's soccer contest, a "Team Theme" contest will be held on the pitch of Darcy Field. Each team and club will dress as one united group and parade onto the field with the best costumed participants receiving a special prize. We cannot reveal who will be dressing as what, because that would ruin the fun!

The rest of Homecoming weekend will feature more fun and games for students, parents and alumni from Friday (Oct. 16) through Sunday (Oct. 18). You can find out more about those events by clicking here. Finally, alumni and alumnae will have the chance to recapture Molloy glory again in the annual Alumni Games that will take place around the campus area.
