Women's Basketball Drops 2015 Opener to Philadelphia, 69-55

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Jan. 4, 2015) - On Sunday, the Molloy College women's basketball team opened up the 2015 calendar year with a 69-55 loss to non-conference opponent Philadelphia University. The defeat drops the Lions to 5-6 overall, while the Rams improved to 10-1 on the campaign.
 
At the end of the first half, the Lions trailed Philadelphia, 31-17. The Lions were led offensively by senior guard/forward Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y), who paced the Lions with five points and seven rebounds, continuing to showcase her all-around game in her final season in a maroon and white uniform.
 
In the second half, the Lions trailed by as many as 21 points, which was the highwater mark for the Rams (7:07 remaining). The Lions chipped the lead down as low as 10, but was never able to cut the lead to single digits and left the City of Brotherly Love with a sub-.500 ledger.
 
Overall in the game, Molloy was guided by junior  guard/forward Kimani Jackson (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and her 14 points (5-14 shooting). Sophomore guard Aliyah McDonald (Hempstead, N.Y.) added 12 points (5-10 from the field).
 
The Rams' Mary Newell poured in a game-best 24 points (8-11 from the field).
 
Head Coach Kate Lynch and the Lions return to the hardwood when they open up the 2015 home portion of their schedule on Wednesday versus East Coast Conference-foe the University of the District of Columbia. The opening tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. from Quealy Gymnasium.
