Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2015) - Despite nearly making a monumental comeback, the Molloy College women's basketball team lost a tight game with Queens College tonight, 65-56. The loss drops the Lions to 5-10 on the season and 1-7 in East Coast Conference play. The win improves the Knights to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in ECC action.
At halftime, the Lions were down 40-20. However, that didn't dampen their spirits coming out of the intermission as the Lions chipped away to eventually bring the Knights' lead down to just four points. A layup from junior guard Alexia O'Connor (Centerport, N.Y.) changed the score to 60-56 at 2:11 remaining. Desperately trying to cling on to the lead and eek out the victory, the Knights hit three free throws and a jump shot to survive and leave Quealy Gymnasium with a win.
The Lions were led by sophomore Maggie Salamone (Narragansett, R.I.) and her 15 points (5-7 shooting) off the bench. She was also 3-5 from three-point land. O'Connor finished with 13 points (5-9 from the field).
Kristen Korzevinski's 18 points paced the Knights, while Madison Rowland contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Her sister, MacKenzie Rowland, added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Head Coach Kate Lynch and the Lions return to the hardwood on Thursday, January 22 against the University of Bridgeport. The opening tipoff from Quealy is slated for 5 p.m.
