Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2014) - Similar to the men's game played one hour before the women's contest, the Molloy College Lions needed just one goal to best Queens College on Saturday afternoon. Said goal was scored by Molloy sophomore forward
Danielle Valente (South Setauket, N.Y.), who found the back of the netting in the 64th minute of regulation. The Lions are now 1-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the East Coast Conference, while the Knights dropped to 2-3-2 overall and 0-3-0 in league play.
Valente's marker was fired in off a rebound of a save the Knights' goalkeeper Mersina Onesto made two seconds earlier. That save was made due to a header attempt by Molloy junior midfielder
Alicia Mercurio (Williston Park, N.Y.). This was Valente's second goal of the 2014 campaign.
The Lions held the slim advantage in both shots (8-7) and corner kicks (5-4).
Between the pipes, Molloy senior netminder
Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.) made three saves in the win.
HONORING HEROES: Prior to today's game, the crowd gave a warm welcome and showed its thanks and support to
Quanjian Yan -- a military veteran from the Wounded Warrior Project -- who served as honorary team captain for the day.
