Women's Soccer Plays Caldwell to Scoreless Draw in Home Opener

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sep. 17, 2014) - In its 2014 home opener, the Molloy College women's soccer squad battled Caldwell University to a double-overtime, scoreless draw. Following the game, the Lions moved to 0-3-1, while the Cougars are now 1-3-1.

The Lions held the advantage in shots (17-8), while their opponents led in the corner kick count (6-1).

A hold-your-breath type of moment occured for Molloy fans when with just six seconds left in the second half, Caldwell's Ashlee Paknis hit the right post a few yards in front of the goal.

Junior goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.), who played the second half and both overtime periods, stopped four shots, while freshman netminder Paige Salmon (West Hempstead, N.Y.) didn't see any chances in the first 45 minutes of the contest. Senior Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.), senior Chelsea Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) and sophomore Danielle Valente (South Setauket, N.Y.) all had three shots, while junior Alicia Mercurio (Williston Park, N.Y.) recorded a pair.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field on Saturday when they host Mercy College in the 2014 East Coast Conference opener. Game time is set for 3 p.m.  LiveStats and an audio/video broadcast will be available at MolloyLions.com.
