Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 2, 2014) - On Friday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team was propelled to victory over Queens College in its first game of the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament at the plate with sophomore
Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.) and in the circle with freshman
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.). Botte smashed two solo home runs to account for Molloy's offense, while Hawks hurled the complete-game shutout. The Lions improved to 29-20-1 overall and will play at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the winner's bracket of the ECC Tournament versus host-school LIU Post. With the loss, Queens fell to 31-17-1.
Botte's two solo shots came in the second and sixth innings this afternoon. Those two blasts accounted for half of Molloy's hits as today's game was a tight pitchers' duel. The other two base knocks for the Lions came off the bats of senior
Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) -- both were doubles.
Hawks threw a gem, surrendering no runs on just five hits. She whiffed three Knights batters, improving her record to 14-8 and lowering her ERA on the season to 2.94.
