Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 1, 2014) - The Molloy College women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close on Thursday afternoon with a 16-4 loss to No. 2 LIU Post in the inaugural East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. Molloy qualified for the tournament as the 4-seed, but could not overcome the attack of the top-seeded Pioneers. The Lions end the season with a 9-7 record while, LIU Post improves to 17-0 overall.
It was a tough start for Lions against not only the top team in the conference, but also the second-ranked team in the nation amongst NCAA Division II. The Pioneers opened up the game on a 5-0 run, including two goals from ECC Rookie of the Year Stefani Vagelatos.
About 15 minutes into the contest, Molloy would score its first goal of the contest. Sophomore midfielder
Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) tallied her 25th goal of the season off of a feed from freshman attack
Taylor Corcoran (Holbrook, N.Y.). Earlier in the day, O'Brien was named to the All-ECC Second Team.
After that goal though, LIU Post would end the half on a 7-0 run. ECC Player of the Year Jackie Sileo, receiving that honor for the third-consecutive season, finished the half with six points and ended up with eight in the game (3 G, 5 A).
Molloy would play better in the second half, as less than two minutes in, freshman attack
Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored for the Lions. The assist was credited to senior midfielder
Candice Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.). Noakes was named All-ECC First Team after finishing the regular season with a team-leading 18 assists and 35 points, which slotted second on the team.
The Lions would also score the final two goals of the game, both coming from O'Brien. The first came off of a free position opportunity with less than 12 minutes remaining in the game. The last of the contest came with 3:52 left and was assisted by junior midfielder
Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.).
Seniors
Samantha Arlotta (Garden City Park, N.Y.), Noakes, and
Jessica Teves (Merrick, N.Y.) played in their final game with the Lions today. Arlotta was an All-ECC First Team selection this season, leading the Lions in goals (36) and points (37). In addition to leading the team in assists, Noakes was second on the team in draw controls (25) and sixth in ground balls (23). Teves started all 16 games, accumulating 15 goals.
