Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 9, 2014) - On Wednesday, the Molloy College baseball team welcomed Bloomfield College to Mitchel Field for a midweek non-conference contest. The Deacons didn't treat their hosts well, as Bloomfield defeated Molloy by the final score of 17-4. With the win, the Deacons are now 6-15 overall, while the Lions slipped to 9-15 on the year.
Bloomfield's offense clicked on all cylinders throughout the game. The second inning proved to be the big frame that Molloy couldn't come back from as the Deacons batted around and scored 10 runs.
The Lions' offense was fueled by a two-run triple off the bat of sophomore
Nicholas Gonchar (Staten Island, N.Y.), and a run scoring off a fielder's choice and another via a wild pitch.
In the batter's box, Gonchar finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while freshman
Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Lions' bats were stymied by Bloomfield starter Allen Rivera, who went eight innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits.
Out of the Molloy bullpen, sophomore
Shea Spitzbarth (Staten Island, N.Y.), junior
Alex Brosnan (Farmingdale, N.Y.), and sophomore
Peter Vath (Selden, N.Y.) combined for three innings of shutout relief. Senior
Anthony Eichhorn (Sayville, N.Y.) had six strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched. In an astonishing stat, only five of the 17 runs Molloy surrendered today were earned.
Head Coach
Joe Fucarino and the Lions will next hit the field on Friday, Apr. 11 when they host Dominican College at 3:30 p.m.
