Softball Falls to Queens in ECC Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 8, 2014) - On Tuesday, the Molloy College softball team fell to Queens College in both games of an East Coast Conference doubleheader, 10-6 and 8-0 (5 innings) at Bob Klein Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y.  The Knights handed the Lions their first conference losses of the year as they dropped to 7-2 in league play and 13-11 overall. With the wins, Queens improved to 21-11 on the season and 9-5 in the ECC.

Game 1: Queens 10, Molloy 6

The Knights jumped on the scoreboard first when pitcher Monique Roberge hit a solo shot in the second inning. A Knights' RBI double in the same inning gave Queens a 2-0 lead, before Molloy senior shortstop Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled home freshman third baseman Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.).

The Knights would score another five runs in the third frame to increase their lead to 7-1. In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions grabbed three of those runs back. Clinton recorded a two-run single, while senior right fielder Lauren Alexander (Huntington, N.Y.) smacked an RBI single up the middle.

Down 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Lions scored twice -- the first run came home when junior second baseman Brenda Lee (Corona, Calif.) smacked an RBI double and the second run scored when Sinagra touch home plate via a wild pitch. An RBI single for the Knights in the seventh inning would change their lead to 10-6, which ended up being the final score.

Game 2: Queens 8, Molloy 0 (5 innings)

The Lions weren't able to piece together any offense in the second game of the afternoon as Queens' starter Isabelle Yaroch stymied the home bats. She allowed just one hit in five innings. The Knights scored in the second, third and fifth innings. Molloy freshman starter Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) surrendered eight runs, although only two were earned.

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to action on Thursday, Apr. 10 when they play at LIU Post beginning at 3 p.m.
