Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 1 LIU Post, 18-4

Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 5, 2014) - The Molloy College women's lacrosse team squared off against the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II in LIU Post on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers' high-powered offense and stingy defense was too much for the Lions as LIU Post earned the victory, 18-4. Following the win, the Pioneers improved to 12-0 overall (5-0 ECC), while the Lions dropped to 6-5 on the year and 2-2 in the league.

LIU Post scored 12 unanswered goals in the first half. In the second stanza, the Lions scored four tallies to the Pioneers' six. Molloy scored for the first time at the 25:57 mark when freshman Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) found the back of the cage off a feed from fellow rookie Taylor Corcoran (Holbrook, N.Y.). Then, following five straight goals by the Pioneers, Molloy recorded a trio of goals. Freshman Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) scored at the 6:47 mark, while Sesselman netted the final two Molloy goals to complete her hat trick.

In the cage, Molloy sophomore goalie Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) played the first 30 minutes and made 10 saves. Junior Laura Vetter (Great River, N.Y.) stopped three shots in the second half.

Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions are back in action on Sunday, Apr. 13 when they travel to our nation's capital and take on the University of D.C.  The opening draw control is slated for 11 a.m.
